Holy Good Food and Friends Batman!

If you’ve ever talked to me about  the eating situation at my college, you know that I’ve always been less than pleased with what we get here. We have four places to eat on campus: Baker, Muddy Run, Jitters and Cafe Ala Cart. Only Baker and Muddy Run are open for dinner. Baker is your general cafeteria buffet style eatery, while Muddy Run has four “stations” (salads, mexican, subs, and grill) where you can get various things to eat. Sometimes the food is okay, and sometimes the food is just terrible.

Tonight, since I had to head down to Ellis early to pick up the bowl that I won at Empty Bowls, Mike and I decided to head up to Muddy since Baker wouldn’t be open for another 30 minutes, and I had over $200 of DCB to spend. Basically, DCB is money put on a card at the beginning of the semester (comes with our meal plans) and then we can buy things at Muddy, Jitters and Cafe to eat when we’re not allowed to use our meals (i.e. for dinner at Muddy). So we headed up and both chose the grill line. To our surprise there was a special out which said “Steak Dinner”. Basically it was an 8 oz. Delmonico steak, fries or onion rings, a salad, an oreo/recese/m&ms desert pie and a large fountain soda, all for $14.

Mike was almost out of DCB, so we decided that we’d both get the dinner and I’d pay for it. Soon after we ordered, Nicole and Steve showed up and, since I NEED to spend that DCB or I don’t get it back, I offered to buy it for them too if they wanted (they’re both running low on DCB too). So we all  got the dinners and ate there together. And this is the surprising part: The food was AMAZING. The steak was really good, and Mike had gotten onion rings while I got fries, so we could share. All of it was extremely good, which is somewhat strange, since I’ve never been particularly happy with the food that we got at the grill line.

It was also really awesome to be able to eat with Nicole and Steve. We’ve all only been friends since about midway through the summer, but those two are seriously awesome. I was actually feeling bad last week about the fact that I really don’t have many good friends here at college due to a miriad of strange, drama-filled, and/or completely immature events which happened in previous semesters. But the more we hang out with those two, the more I realize that I really don’t need a bunch of friends when the ones that I do have are completely amazing. They’re people that no matter what, I’ll never forget ( and yes Amy, you’re way up there on that list ^_^ ).
