DinnerĀ tonight was actually pretty awesome. Mike, Nicole, Steve and I went downtown to attend a charity event that our college sponsors called “Empty Bowls”. Basically what happens, is throughout the year, our pottery studio sponsors workshops where anyone interested can come and learn how to make bowls. The pottery students also work all semester to make bowls of their own, and then they’re all glazed, fired and then donated to this event. What happens then is that local businesses from all over town donate gallons of various soups to the event. You can then go and buy a bowl for $10 and have all-you-can-eat soup. They also have some other bowls for sale (I got a really cute little one) and a silent auction where you can bid on bowls made by faculty members and local artists. I bid on one that a Communications professor made and I really hope I get it since it was very awesome. Even if I don’t, the bowl I bought with my ticket is extremely awesome too. All of the proceeds from the tickets, bowls on sale, and silent auctions goes towards local Food Pantries which help feel the less fortunate.
It was a nice end to a day that didn’t start of well. I live at the end of my hallway, near my dorms primary stairwell… I was woken up around 5:00 am by an International student out there screaming at the top of her lungs in Chinese. It sounded like there were a bunch of people, and she just kept screaming, so I got up to make sure that they weren’t like attacking her or anything. They had actually then made their way out onto the porch and were sitting while she paced back and forth screaming some more. There were also still three International students in the stairwell on my floor arguing about something (I don’t know what, since again it was all in Chinese). Eventually they came onto our floor because turns out that the girl of that group was one of the students that lives down the hall from me (on a No Alcohol/Substance floor might I add) and she was three sheets to the wind. They then proceeded to let her throw up several times outside of my door (into a bag, but there was still some vomit on the floor) before dragging her down the hall to her room. Screaming girl was still screaming, but the three drunkards had woken Mike up and he went down and told them they had to get gone or he was calling JCPD. Apparently she had broken up with her boyfriend and decided that the whole end of our dorm needed to know. Finally an hour and a half, a threat to call the police, 1 hysterical, 1 vomiting, and 10 drunken International students later I was able to get back to sleep.
I have a bunch of work which needs to be done tomorrow, so I think I’m going to try and take it easy for the rest of today and get to bed early. I’ve been abnormally tired lately and I think it’s starting to get me.
Edit: Got a call a little bit ago.. I won the bowl that I bid on! Yay me!
Wow not a nice way to start the day. Vomit and drunk girls screaming in a language you don’t understand? No thanks. I’m glad you had a nice time out to dinner, though!
That sounds like an awesome charity event. Congrats on your winnings.
I hope someone did call and put a complaint on her and the others. But glad to hear that you were able to head back to sleep.
