December Recap

So, in light of the fact that other than this morning I hadn’t posted anything since December 3rd, I figure I should update you all on the goings on in my life.

I finished my first quarter at the Art Institute. Ended all of my classes with As which I’m really excited about since most of them were based on creativity and that’s something that I’ve struggled with in the past. But I apparently did a good enough job to keep my grades up! My math teacher even asked if I’d be willing to help tutor next quarter if she can get something going. Now I’m really looking forward to starting the next quarter on January 11th.

So far my schedule looks like this:

Monday: Screen Design & Graphics (8:00am – 12:00pm)
Tuesday: Design & Typography (8:00am – 12:00pm)
Thursday: Composition and Language II (8:00am – 12:00pm)
Friday: Web Site Development (8:00am – 12:00pm)

I have less completely free days than I did last quarter (I had Mon, Wed, and Fri off) which will be a change, but I also don’t have any classes past noon (got out at 5pm on Thursday last quarter) so that’s a good thing. Plus I’m really excited for these classes (especially Typography and Web Site Development).

About mid way through the month, my uncle died and it was much harder on me than expected. He’d pretty much been written off by most of my family as a mean old jerk, which I can only assume was partially true. Some of the things I heard, and the way he supposedly treated his wife and son (who lives with them) were just horrible. But any time I’ve ever seen him he was always incredibly nice to me and he always seemed interested in my life, so his death was a bit of a shock to me. I knew that he had been sick, but I didn’t know how sick.

On the happier side, I found out that my cousin is engaged! And she asked me to be the maid of honor in her wedding, which was something I didn’t expect at all. Her and I have always seemed to be on opposite ends of the spectrum when it came to likes, fashion, etc., but as we’ve grown older we’re finding out that we’re more and more alike. I’m still much more of a tech-head, and shes still more sophisticated, but I’m really glad that we get along so well now. But I still didn’t expect her to ask me to be maid of honor (in the wedding, maybe, but that was about it). Now I can’t wait for November to get here.

Towards the end of the month I played a game that I once vowed to never touch, and if you’re a friend of mine on Facebook, you can now see that I am quite addicted to FarmVille. I haven’t started playing any of the others like Cafe World or Medical Mayhem yet, but I probably won’t be able to resist them for long.

We had a scare with my grandmother where a doctor wrote something down wrong and we all spent the day thinking that she was pretty much going to die by the end of the week. Thankfully it was all sorted out the same day. Her health isn’t great, but at least she’s okay and was able to be here for Christmas.

Christmas was fun, and I got to spend time with my family and met my cousin’s fiance. I got a lot of nice presents, including a new desktop computer which should be delivered tomorrow! I got my mom a TomTom GPS so that she can’t make any excuses about not coming to visit me in York anymore. Now she’ll just have to get over her fear of traffic.

All in all, December was a pretty rollercoaster month for me. So was all of 2009. Hit some of the highest highs and the absolute lowest low of my entire life. So now I’m just hoping that 2010 brings nothing but good things for me and that I’m able to make some of the positive changes in my life that I really need to make.

Happy New Year’s Day everyone!

  1. I’m so sorry about your uncle. :(

I looooooooooove Farmville (almost level 36!), but Cafe World bores me after awhile. And if I were you, I wouldn’t even bother with Medical Mayhem, it’s pretty stupid.
